I like to believe there is an artist in all of us. Sometimes it just needs a little persuasion to make itself noticed. For me it came in the form of a lengthy stay in hospital and an even longer recovery period.
Out of ashes springs new life.
And with it, the chance to preserve some of our most beautiful creatures for years to come. It is human nature to destroy instead of to try and coexist. A lot of species alive today will be nothing but memories in a few short years and usually it is just to slake our thirst for "More".
More power, more wealth, more influence.
In the end we are only hurting ourselves by making the world a slightly less magical and wondrous place. Even if I can't change human nature, I hope that I may be able to change some minds.

Over the last few years I have been learning new skills and improving old ones. I have made mistakes and had errors in judgement, but each one has brought with it a greater understanding of my chosen medium. I can now look back over my older pieces and track a trajectory of steady improvement.
Each painting seems to have more life than the last.
I will continue making mistakes and continue learning. This is a journey with no set destination. There will always be greater heights to strive for. There will always be a painting to improve upon.

I want the subject, whether it's a snow leopard or a sparrow, to feel like it's in the room with you. Like it could walk straight through the canvas. That in a way, there is no canvas, that you are looking into the animals world with no barriers, bars or screens between you.
It is my hope that, in a small way, I can utilise the skills and knowledge that I have gained to help the protection and conservation efforts for these beautiful animals. While that was not my original intention when I started painting, the more I looked into the creatures I was studying for my pieces, the more I came to realise just how fragile our world is.
If my paintings help this end in some small way, then this whole endeavour will be something I can be truly proud of.
